Digital photos are made up of many small dots called "pixels."
If a picture is taken measuring 640 horizontal pixels by 480 vertical pixels (307,200 total), and each pixel has 24-bit color data, the entire picture is represented by 922 kilobytes of data.
*"bits" are units to measure digital data
So 4 megabytes of memory in a digital camera can only hold about 4 pictures. |

Compared to text, images require a very large volume of data. The data code is processed and compressed to increase speed and efficiency. |
