Image Communication - Creating more intelligent, friendlier office systems
|
| The proper evolution of office machines is toward
greater friendliness to people. Ricoh's concern expands to every aspect
of each machine, from introduction to operation, maintenance and upgrading.
Not satisfied simply to conduct business operations, we are striving
to realize more intelligent systems in which machines can operate
without instructions and employ agent functions to execute tasks for
other machines. |

What are the characteristics of a system that is truly easy for people to
use? We have to admit that the present office machines do not go far enough
in considering the customer's ease of use.
The term "appliance" suggests a product that friendly to everyone. When
a customer purchases a product, the first requirement is that he or she
be able to turn on the switch and begin operating it immediately, without
reading a manual or installing any software. In the area of maintenance
as well, it is essential to create products that conduct maintenance themselves,
without instructions from the user, and to supply software upgrades automatically
over a network. In ways such as this, Ricoh's concern extends to easy, integrated
machine management covering everything from setup and operation to maintenance
and upgrading.
As appliances evolve, moreover, machines will take over jobs that are performed
by people today. Not content to limit ourselves to business operations,
we are striving at Ricoh to realize intelligent systems in which machines
can operate without instructions.
