| Forwarding the evolution of business communications
|
The birth of each new communications vehicle represents another step in
the evolution of the business world. Throughout its history, Ricoh has consistently
suggested new communications concepts from the customers' perspective and
delivered the technologies and products to realize them.
In 1977, Ricoh led the industry in announcing the OA (office automation)
concept. It then followed up by developing products such as word processors,
copiers, printers, facsimiles and electronic filing systems based on this
concept in rapid succession. As these OA machines were introduced into various
office environments, they changed the way the individual staff did their
jobs while raising the officesinformation management to new levels of efficiency.
The advent of the personal computer did more than any other single occurrence
to accelerate the advance of OA equipment. It is the PC that deserves the
greatest credit for igniting the digitalization revolution in the business
communication world. But adept as PCs may be at managing text and numerical
data, they remain relatively limited when it comes to managing images-the
form of information that communicates to people at the most basic level.
Ricoh has been pursuing the IPS (image-processing system) concept with the
objective of enhancing overall office productivity by finding ways to combine
PCs with image-processing machines.
How will communications evolve in the digital network era of the future?
At Ricoh, we want to be the company that walks side by side with customers,
providing them with new benefits through every era. We will contribute to
the business communications revolution by deploying our excellent command
of technologies and accumulated know-how in the image-processing field to
offer attractive, fully satisfying solutions in the network environment.

The Ricoh Commitment to Image Communication
|
Image Communication
Ricoh's new corporate slogan reflects
the future of business communications
and of our sphere of business, which will
focus on development of our ability to
offer new benefits to customers. Rapid
progress in the introduction and
dissemination of digital and networking
technologies in recent years has led to
the appearance of a new style of global-
scale communications, as exemplified by
the Internet. This has created a need for
new means of communication characterized
by "understandability and flexibility."
Our current efforts at Ricoh are directed at
creating an environment in which "virtually
anyone can achieve
effortless processing and management of
all available information, including images,
photos, text and figures." In this environment,
the power generated by people working
together can be integrated into a single force,
applied beyond the limits of time and space.
Ricoh's objective is to offer products and
services in an integrated environment through
advanced digital image processing linking
computer data and image information in a
manner people can understand intuitively.
Our future has already arrived.
