Ricoh Ranked Top for Corporate Responsibility in the Office Equipment and Domestic Appliance Industries

Ricoh Company, Ltd., (President: Masamitsu Sakurai) has taken top place among a group of 16 companies manufacturing office equipment and household electrical items, with a ranking of B+ in the 'Corporate Social Responsibility' survey carried out by the German company Oekom Research (Headquarters: Munich).

Oekom has to date only considered corporate environmental aspects in its surveys and rankings, and this study was the first to include social and cultural aspects. Ricoh's grading for environmental aspects was A-, placing it top among the 16 companies surveyed, while its grading for social and cultural aspects was B-, also the top grade in the group. Taken together, these grades gave an overall ranking of B+, placing Ricoh top of the group. The 16 companies surveyed were as follows:

Japanese companies: Canon, Sanyo Electric, Sharp, Sony, Toshiba, Hitachi, Matsushita Electric Industrial, Mitsubishi Electric, Ricoh.

Overseas companies: Electrolux (Sweden), Oce, Philips Electronics (both Holland), Samsung Electronics (South Korea), NCR, Whirlpool and Xerox (all USA).
(According to Oekom, NCR and Whirlpool did not submit information to the survey).

The previous survey carried out in 2000 was conducted purely on environmental aspects. Ricoh's ranking in that survey was 1st out of 39 companies in the IT / Electronics category.
